A Welcome Shaped by Abu Dhabi

BRASH helped shape a new identity for Zayed International Airport—one that turns a global gateway into an expression of Abu Dhabi hospitality, welcoming every traveller with clarity, warmth and a distinctive sense of place.

Airports are designed for movement. But when scale, speed and efficiency take over, the experience can quickly lose its humanity. For Zayed International Airport, the challenge was bigger still. This was not simply a new terminal. It was Abu Dhabi’s new front door, a landmark created to welcome up to 45 million passengers each year and introduce them to the ambitious, fast-evolving capital of the UAE. The brand had to perform across cultures, languages and every stage of the passenger journey. It needed to be clear without feeling clinical, and convey a powerful sense of place without falling back on familiar regional clichés. Our opportunity was to make an international hub feel like a natural host, even if only for a brief transition between flights. Combining operational precision with the warmth, dignity and quiet confidence of Emirati hospitality.

We refined and expanded the identity into a robust brand system designed to work at global scale. At its heart is a symbol inspired by five facets of Abu Dhabi; the dhow, Qasr Al Hosn, the iconic architecture, the desert sun and the date palm. Open and geometric, it creates a distinctive expression of place while leaving room for every traveller to make their own connection. Around it, we built a wider visual language drawn from Abu Dhabi itself. A palette inspired by its mangroves, dunes, sea and city. Balanced bilingual typography that brings Arabic and English together with equal confidence. Flowing graphic frames, geometric iconography and candid documentary photography that make the system feel clear, human and alive. Designed to move seamlessly across signage, uniforms, digital interfaces, communications and motion, the system brought consistency to an airport operating at enormous scale. It also established the foundations for a cohesive brand architecture across Abu Dhabi’s wider airport portfolio, from this international gateway to executive, regional and island airports.

More than a set of guidelines, it gave Abu Dhabi’s next icon the tools to behave like a truly global brand. The work also earned the trust that led BRASH to transform Abu Dhabi Airports Company into Abu Dhabi Airports, an award-winning rebrand recognised across three categories at the Transform Awards MEA.
