Insight

Absher was never going to be just another government service. As Saudi Arabia began moving essential public services online, the ambition was to replace paperwork, queues and disconnected interactions with a simpler digital relationship between people and government.

The platform would touch almost every aspect of everyday life. Identity. Residency. Passports. Driving licences. Vehicles. Visas. Civil records. Travel. Employment. And it needed to work for everyone.

For Saudi citizens, for the millions of international residents who call the Kingdom home, and increasingly for the global talent and businesses arriving as Saudi Arabia opens itself to the world. Absher would become more than an app or website. It would become part of the infrastructure of living and working in Saudi Arabia.

Our challenge was to give that extraordinarily complex system a simple, recognisable and human face.

Idea

Consider it done. The idea was already there in the name. In Arabic, Absher is an expression of reassurance, a promise that something will be taken care of. It gave us a powerful starting point for a government platform designed to make complex processes feel effortless.

We built the brand around the meeting of two languages; the language of people and the language of technology.

Behind every Absher interaction sits data; information encoded, connected and exchanged digitally to transform complicated government processes into simple actions. At the heart of the identity, we translated that idea into Arabic.

The word أبشر was crafted as a distinctive contemporary calligraphic mark, its forms influenced by the ones and zeros of binary code, the fundamental language of computing.

Impact

Absher has gone on to become one of the most recognisable expressions of Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation. What started as a pioneering e-government service has developed into an essential piece of national digital infrastructure, connecting citizens, residents and businesses with hundreds of government services.

Today, more than 32 million digital identities have been issued through the platform. Absher provides more than 460 services, and in 2025 alone processed more than 448 million electronic transactions.

And as Saudi Arabia has evolved into one of the world’s most digitally advanced governments, the brand created by BRASH has remained at the heart of that experience, adapting across platforms, services, audiences and physical touchpoints while retaining a distinctive and immediately recognisable presence.
